Performance by Jason Underhill
Thursday, August 2, 2018 | 7 - 9 pm

During his performance at MCASB’s Curated Cocktails: Summer Nights with KCRW, artist Jason Underhill will function as a one-man clickbait/news agency. Eschewing research and journalistic integrity for entertainment value, Underhill invites audience members to send him the "stuff" they collect on their phones. This includes, but is not limited to: screenshots, memes, reminders, mantras, photos of food, photos of pets, photos of... food and pets together(?), a news story, something they overheard (gossip! hearsay!). Participants can even just get in touch to say "hey!", and tell the artist about their trip to Orlando. It's all material.

A DIY booth will be built on site (inspired by The Psychiatric Help Booth from the Peanuts cartoons, and an amalgam of lemonade stands found on Pinterest, and Oprah's, Gwyneth Paltrow's and Kelly Ripa's blogs), acting as a studio space where Underhill will use the texts he receives from audience members as inspiration for 'news'. Throughout the evening he will process the gathered material and make drawings, paintings, and collages into fake headlines.

TO PARTICIPATE:
Please text images, blurbs, screenshots, links, anecdotes etc. to Jason Underhill at: (323) 673-1791. There is no need to share your name or any personal information. All phone numbers will be deleted at the end of the evening.

Getting There:
The Paseo Nuevo Shopping Center public garage is adjacent to MCASB. The first 75 minutes are free and the charge is $1.50 for each hour after. 75-and 90-minute street parking is available in the neighborhoods off of Chapala Street.
