Falling Into The Future: Kinetic Art at The Edge of the World – Exhibition Planning Symposium

Are you curious about the process for building a contemporary art exhibition at a museum? Are you curious about hearing from artists about their interests and processes? Join us for a free exhibition planning symposium on Sunday, December 14, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at Center Stage Theater across from the museum on the Arts Terrace at Paseo Nuevo.

The day will feature two roundtable conversations: We are who we are because of everything else: Bodies of the Pacific Rim (morning) and The Planetary and The Universal (afternoon). The symposium will also include a screening of the short film "Recuerdos" by Patricia Belli, and a screening and performance by Manjari Sharma from her ongoing project "Tat Tvam Asi - The Universe is a Mirror". Additional elements to be announced and or presented during the day.

Confirmed participants include Patricia Belli, Manjari Sharma, Diana Thater, Dr. JoAnn Kuchera Morin, Ann Niemetz, Mary Heebner, as well as MCASB staff and board, additional participants to be announced.

Falling into the Future: Kinetic Art at the Edge of the World has been conceived of as a contribution to the sector in presenting new and primarily non western perspectives on technology, through artworks made by contemporary artists living in California and around the Pacific Rim. These artists utilize robotics, AI, video, light (both natural and artificial), and interactivity to speak to global concerns around climate change, traditional ecological knowledge, the impact of technologies on the body, and the poetics of the mundane. Lead funding has been provided by The David Bermant Foundation.
